Quality technician is required to have a high school and 6 years of relevant experience in a similar field.

Or Technical diploma and minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a similar field.

The Quality technician is responsible for inspection of incomming and process coils in finishing lines and

decide the Quality of material produced by Following Quality norms and standards. Fill out inspection

reports with input of inspection and production data into the available data base system. Ensure that the

material being processed at finishing lines, meets the customer requirements/ internal quality

requirements with respect to dimensions (Tolerance), surface quality, shape, coiling and weight.By using

Cognex system and on line inspection give on time feed back to control the process defects and minimise

the Quality diversions.



Safety, health and environment

· Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

· Awareness of the Environmental Policy, Waste Minimization /Pollution Prevention Policies and Environment, Health and Safety Policy/Principals. Incumbent must be knowledgeable of the environmental aspects of processes, activities and services in job area and appropriate measures to control impact on the environment


· Ensure all the measuring instrument should be calibrated or validated prior to use.

· Maintain all shift Quality /Production records


· Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; input data into quality database.

· Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

· Accomplishes quality and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

· Quality technicians are responsible to work in all three finishing line (High speed slitter, Coating line and pit slitter).

· Quality technician is responsible for maintaining Cognex system for smooth functioning.

· Quality technician is responsible for Cognex system defect review for each & every coil & then create report before releasing coils.


· During any process defects the technician must give on time feedback to operation and ensure the defect is eliminated with minimum diversion.


Follow EHS procedures and work instructions

To inspect the surface quality of the material being processed, at the inspection station or at designated safe location by following safety precaution as per SWI.

Collect the defect information from the online measuring equipment of coater line like Cognex system / Stroboscope/ IR Gauge /ELF gauge and analyze the defect data information

Approves in-process production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.

Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.

Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.

In the event that the coil specifications are not meeting the requirements of the order, decision to accept or de-allocate from the order shall be done in consultation with the Quality Engineer.

To inspect the surface quality of the material as per the acceptance norms and record the decisions with quality remarks.

· Hold

· Scrap

Follow the acceptance norms and standards and accordingly take decision on quality.

Material put on HOLD shall be cleared for action/disposal only after consultation with the Quality Engineer / Metallurgical Engineer.

In case of poor shape of material, check the incoming materials at entry side of the line and note the observation.

In the event of any defect being generated by the production line, suggest Main operator/ shift Production Supervisor to take immediate action in the line for the rectification.

Ensure sample collection to do the mechanical and other analysis test in the laboratory

Based on laboratory test results decide to accept or reject the coils.

Support the Quality engineer in investigating the customer complaints and finding the root cause.

Carry out any further activities which are delegated by metallurgical engineer or Quality engineer

Based on area of working Either Slitting line or coating line carry the specific inspection tasks related to the area

If the defect is continuous or repeating more than 10MT or 5000 meter in a coil then he has to co-ordinate with Lead operator / production supervisor & consults with Quality engineer & Metallurgy Engineer to stop the process.

He will support Quality engineer / Metallurgy engineer for any product / process development.
