Consults operating room schedule to determine equipment needs for special procedures and prepares operating room accordingly.
• Maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, and records the functional integrity of all anesthesia equipment as per manufacturer’s recommendation, and Reports the shortage of materials to the supervisor.
• Manages documents and all interventions in the appropriate format.
• Ensures compliance with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection
• Assists in positioning patients for procedures
• Under the direct supervision and prescription of the anesthesiologist, preparing and administering anesthesia medication.
• Provide skilled assistance to the anesthesiologist in the induction and maintenance including monitoring of the patient throughout all the procedure.
• Provide assistance during resuscitation of the patient in emergencies by anticipating the evolving circumstances (including intraop cardiac arrest, difficult airway and insertion of invasive monitoring devices).
• Collection and analysis of blood sample from the patient. Utilize Point-of-Care Testing. Administer blood and other blood products if necessary to optimize patient care.
• Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensuring continuous quality improvement measures are in place. Conduct method evaluation/development as per standard policies and procedures
• Assisting in the planning, clinical audit processes and developing of policies that guide the service implementation process
• Delivering and participating in training and education session for department staff, doctors and nurses i.e. teaching, case studies and clinical presentations.
• Being involved in the daily management of workload allocation within the specialist area, taking into account the changing/competing demands and making decisions about prioritization of caseloads
Accountabilities
• Accountable to undertake all the tasks assigned to them by line manager within their scope of practice and responsibility.
• Daily room preparation according to the case, all anesthesia equipment calibrated, checked and ready for use, and checklist of consumable items refill and expiry date performed.
• Prepare and administer intravenous anesthesia drugs under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist and Witness in the dispensing of narcotics, controlled and semi-controlled drugs.
• Establish and secure peripheral intravenous access and Assist in Central and Arterial line insertion (Intra-operative invasive monitoring).
• Support the Anesthesiologist during general anesthetic induction, maintenance and complete reversal and in all regional anesthesia. Monitor and maintain patient’s vital signs and report to anesthesiologist if intervention is required.

• NLT 4 years work experience in an active Anesthesia department
• NLT 4 years’ experience in an active Anesthesia Department

• Bsc in Anesthesia
• Registered Nurse with specialized training in anesthesia techniques and equipment.
• Registered Respiratory technician with specialized training in anesthetic techniques and equipment.
