A Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the safety and stability of building structures and infrastructure projects. They prepare structural drawings, calculations, and reports while coordinating with architects, contractors, and other engineers to deliver safe, economical, and efficient structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform structural analysis and design for buildings, bridges, towers, and other infrastructure using software tools (e.g., STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAP2000).
Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and documentation.
Review architectural and engineering plans for structural integrity and compliance with codes.
Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress and quality.
Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure design feasibility and coordination.
Calculate loads, stresses, and material requirements to ensure structural safety and efficiency.
Identify and resolve structural issues or challenges during design and construction phases.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, Eurocodes), and safety regulations.
Prepare technical reports, construction specifications, and cost estimates.
Participate in project meetings and provide technical support as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Professional licensure (e.g., PE, Chartered Engineer) is an advantage.
3–5 years of experience in structural design and analysis.
Proficiency in structural design software (STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, AutoCAD).
Knowledge of building codes and standards relevant to the region.
