Job Summary
The Specialist – Ophthalmology is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based medical and surgical eye care to patients in accordance with MMCH policies, DHP regulations, and international best practices. The physician diagnoses, treats, and manages a wide range of ophthalmic conditions while ensuring high standards of patient safety, quality, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with acute and chronic ophthalmic conditions.
Perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and interpret diagnostic investigations (e.g., OCT, visual fields, fundus imaging, biometry, corneal topography, ocular ultrasound).
Perform ophthalmic surgical procedures and laser treatments within the scope of granted clinical privileges.
Provide outpatient, inpatient, and emergency ophthalmology services, including participation in the on-call roster.
Prescribe appropriate medical and surgical treatment plans and provide patient education and follow-up care.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with MMCH policies, DHP regulations, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated patient care.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, research, and continuing professional development.
Qualifications
Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Completion of a recognized residency or specialist training program in Ophthalmology.
Recognized Board Certification or equivalent qualification acceptable to the DHP.
Eligible for or holding a valid DHP license as a Specialist in Ophthalmology.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of post-specialty experience in Ophthalmology.
Experience in a governmental, semi-governmental, academic, or tertiary healthcare setting.
Demonstrated competency in comprehensive ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery appropriate to granted clinical privileges.
