Davidson Management Consultants have been mandated to recruit western trained Addiction Medicine Physicians for their client in Abu Dhabi, UAE which is a 100-bed specialized Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Rehabilitation Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility providing comprehensive medically supervised detoxification, inpatient rehabilitation, residential treatment, outpatient addiction services, relapse prevention, and long-term recovery programs. This is a full time permanent Consultant level position based in Abu Dhabi and is an excellent opportunity for Addiction Medicine Physicians seeking to relocate to the United Arab Emirates and join one of the region’s leading addiction treatment facilities. We are looking for Tier 1 or Tier 2 physicians holding recognized qualifications under the UAE Professional Qualification Requirements. Candidates must possess a recognized Fellowship or Board Certification in Addiction Medicine such as the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) Addiction Medicine (USA), Fellowship of the Chapter of Addiction Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FAChAM-RACP), recognized Royal College pathways in Addiction Medicine (Canada), recognised Addiction Medicine training pathways from the United Kingdom, the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, or other internationally recognized Tier 1 or Tier 2 qualifications accepted by UAE healthcare regulatory authorities. This is not a Psychiatry position and applicants must be qualified physicians specializing in Addiction Medicine. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of recent post Fellowship or post Board Certification experience within addiction medicine, substance use disorder services, detoxification units, rehabilitation hospitals, or behavioral health facilities.The Addiction Medicine Physician will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, detoxification, treatment, and longitudinal medical management of patients with alcohol, opioid, stimulant, benzodiazepine, cannabis, and polysubstance use disorders together with associated physical health complications. Conduct detailed admission assessments, evaluate withdrawal severity, overdose risk, co-existing medical illnesses, medication history, previous rehabilitation episodes, and determine the most appropriate level of care including medically supervised detoxification, inpatient rehabilitation, residential treatment, outpatient programs, or continuing aftercare. Lead medically managed detoxification programs, develop individualized withdrawal management protocols, prescribe and monitor medication-assisted treatment (MAT), manage addiction-related pharmacotherapy, monitor patients for withdrawal complications including seizures, delirium, cardiovascular instability, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, and ensure timely escalation of care whenever clinically indicated. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions frequently associated with substance use disorders including liver disease, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, metabolic disorders, chronic pain, nutritional deficiencies, and other addiction-related medical complications. Work collaboratively with Consultant Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Counseling Psychologists, Family Therapists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Nursing teams, and Case Managers to deliver fully integrated multidisciplinary treatment programs and individualized recovery plans. Participate actively in multidisciplinary case conferences, treatment reviews, family meetings, discharge planning, relapse prevention programs, and continuity of care initiatives. Contribute to the development of evidence-based addiction treatment protocols, clinical pathways, quality improvement initiatives, medical governance programs, physician education, and accreditation activities while ensuring compliance with Department of Health Abu Dhabi regulations, ethical standards, patient safety requirements, and international best practices in Addiction Medicine. Provide education to patients and families regarding the medical aspects of addiction, withdrawal, relapse prevention, medication-assisted recovery, and long-term disease management while supporting the hospital’s vision of delivering world-class evidence-based addiction treatment services.This is an international recruitment opportunity and Davidson Management Consultants does not charge candidates any recruitment, placement, or processing fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
