McMaster children’s hospital is an academic tertiary care hospital affiliated with McMaster University. University is ranked #2 in Canada for research. The 47-bed tertiary level NICU is the referral centre for a catchment area of 2.2 million with 27,000 births. During my Fellowship, I have been responsible for the NICU care of
babies with gestational age from 23 weeks. I gained broad exposure to Clinical Neonatology through serial rotations in our NICU 3, Level II Nursery, Labour and Delivery suite, high-risk Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinics, Prenatal Diagnosis Clinic, Growth and Development Neonatal follow up clinics as well as opportunities to get actively involved in neonatal transport runs by dedicated McMaster regional neonatal transport team throughout their training period. We have access to Echo and Ultrasound machines in the unit to learn and optimize Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (TnEcho) skills and point of care cranial and abdominal ultrasounds during their training period. I improved my skills in patient care and medical knowledge.

I worked in two Ministry of Health hospitals, initially in Ibn Sina Hospital as a Registrar, Pediatrics. Ibn Sina is a Pediatric Surgery hospital in which, with my pediatrics team, I managed the pre- and post-operative Pediatric surgery patients. It was a new kind of experience in my life, to handle surgical cases of all varieties. I dealt with a wide range of pediatric surgical cases like necrotizing enterocolitis, congenital anomalies and other pediatric surgical cases. Later on I was offered the opportunity to work in the Neonatology department at Maternity Hospital, one of the best premature care centers in the Middle East. Maternity Hospital, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, is a center for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment. I treated premature babies as of 24 weeks.
My responsibilities included NICU, OPD, special care units, resuscitation in the labour room and vaccination.
