I. Career Progression
Site Engineer – Brikama II Power Project, Brikama, The Gambia
Jah Multi Industrial Company, Brikama – The Gambia: Sept 2018 – July 2019
As site engineer and head of the civil works’ department, I was responsible of the execution of all civil works in the construction of the 22 MW power station in Brikama, The Gambia, as well as designing most of the reinforced concrete structures, including but not limited to foundations, slab on grades, buildings and roads. Leading the execution of the power plant civil works requires additional understanding of mechanical and electrical works and proper coordination with other design and execution mechanical and electrical teams. In Brikama II power project, I had the chance to work hand to hand with engineers from the reputable MAN Diesel (Germany) and STX Heavy Industries (South Korea), leading to being formally recommended by the latter.
Site Engineer – Kotu Power Generation and Expansion Project (G5), Kotu, The Gambia
Jah Multi Industrial Company, Brikama – The Gambia: Nov 2016 – Sept 2018
Kotu was my first project in The Gambia and the most challenging as the construction of the power station had to take into account the surrounding existing power plants that included drainage and electrical systems. These systems played a major role in the design of the new power station and had to be considered at all times during execution. The complex design of the 11MW diesel engine foundation only meant more challenges to be overcome and greater responsibilities to be handled as I was responsible for its execution. With embedded mechanical and electrical installations including but not limited to tunnels, anchor frames for the engine and the generator, openings for oil drainage and electrical installations and an entire room for generator cooling installations, many lessons had to be learnt in different fields and the proper understanding of the entire system had to be achieved prior to the construction of a massive and multiplex body of reinforced concrete. Other main works included retaining walls, steel structures, electrical control composite building, roads, transformer foundations and drainage system. Kotu project was truly a treasure full of great lessons.
Intern – Sariine School, Sariine
Engineer Elie Maalouf Company, Beirut – August 2015
During my internship at E.M.C, I was able to assist the supervision of the preliminary stage of the construction of a public school in Sariine, Bekaa. Preliminary stage included surveying the site and setting up limits and levels. Earth works followed to reach the foundation level and the given site limits. During the end of my internship, the foundation of the school was already executed. I was also assigned to set a works’ schedule which pushed me to dig into planning and creating a timed schedule of works.
Intern – Pan-Arab Highway (Lot A), Jdita
Consolidated Engineering and Trading Co S.A.L, Beirut – July 2014
Under the supervision of highly skilled engineers, I was able to grasp great lessons in the execution and design of highways. I was at a time where the construction of the Jdita viaduct was at its peak, granting me the opportunity to witness and be part of the execution of the bridge. Drainage systems, shop drawings and laboratory testing are other major domains that I had to dig into during my internship at C.E.T.
