Dear Director/Principal/Human Resources Manager,
I am interested in a Supervisor/Section Head/Coordinator/ESL Teacher position in your company. I have lived in the United States for most of the last 20 years of my life. I initially went to study in the US and then stayed on to work for 10 years in various capacities in the elementary, middle school and college levels. I just completed a stint in the Middle East in the UAE working as a supervisor at a British curriculum school in Dubai and I'm looking for a better opportunity. Before this, I worked in a private school in Qatar as an Academic Administrator and English Teacher/SEN Coordinator. Prior to that, I completed a teaching stint at a British international school (which follows the British National Curriculum for the primary years and the Cambridge IGCSE in high school) in India as an English/ESL teacher and SEN Coordinator.
During the past few years (including the current year), I have also been teaching English to adults in the following areas: Foundation, intermediate and advanced levels, Business English, Cambridge (BEC & FCE), IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC exam preparation.
I have a Science Bachelor's degree and have attended an 18 credit teacher education program from St. John's University, New York. I have also underwent a one year Department of Education sponsored special needs teacher education program in Hawaii, USA. I am currently completing my M.A. in ESL/EFL from University of Hawaii, Honolulu, USA. In addition, I have obtained the (American TESOL Institute (ATI) certified) TESOL certificate.
In my teaching career over the past 14 years, I have taught a wide range of subjects and students from five continents (including Middle-Eastern and Asian students) and subjects in the K-12 setting and also at a college level. Therefore, I am looking to work in either the elementary or secondary level or at a college level. The subjects I can teach are as follows: SEN (Special education Needs K-12), English/ESL(ESL-IGCSE)/ESP, TOEFL, TOIEC, IELTS, Business English, Maths (up to middle school), General Science (up to middle school), Biology (high school).
Additionally, in 2007, I had started an online tutoring website along with another graduate student when I lived and studied at University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. The tutoring covered many subjects including Maths, Social Studies, Science, English and involved secondary students and college level as well. As coordinators, we were responsible for hiring, training and monitoring tutors and also had to help out with tutoring various subjects as and when needed. In the past, I have also tutored for many semesters at the Nagatani Tutoring Center at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, USA. In the past few months, I have been tutoring spoken English to students from East Asia using an online app. called Langland. Hence, I have many years of experience as a tutor.
I have lived in an international student housing setting for over 5 years at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. It consisted of an incredibly diverse population of over 600 scholars and professionals from over 60 countries. While resident at the East West Center and studying at the University of Hawaii, I held positions in the student council boards, various social committees and presented papers at several workshops and conferences. I was also co-editor of the Hawaii TESOL newsletter for two years. Thus, I have a wide exposure dealing with diverse groups of people and a well-rounded international experience.
