The Tug Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the vessel’s machinery and systems. They ensure that all engineering equipment is in proper working condition to support towing operations, vessel safety, and compliance with maritime regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all mechanical and electrical systems onboard the tug.
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on engines, winches, pumps, and other machinery.
Monitor engine performance and report any abnormalities to the Chief Engineer.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and operational logs.
Assist in emergency repairs and troubleshooting as required.
Support towing and maneuvering operations by ensuring all machinery functions correctly.
Follow safety protocols and participate in safety drills and training.
Keep the engine room and other technical areas clean and organized.
Qualifications & Skills:
Diploma/Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Valid Marine Engineering License or certification (STCW compliant).
Proven experience working onboard tugboats or similar vessels.
Strong knowledge of marine propulsion, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs efficiently.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
