The EAL Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing English language programs for non-native English speakers. They support multilingual students, train staff on language acquisition strategies, and ensure an inclusive learning environment that promotes language proficiency and academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop EAL curriculum and teaching materials tailored to diverse student needs.
Assess the English proficiency levels of incoming students and monitor progress throughout the academic year.
Provide targeted support and tutoring to EAL students to enhance their language skills.
Train and support teachers in effective EAL teaching methodologies and classroom strategies.
Coordinate language assessments and standardized testing related to English proficiency.
Collaborate with academic staff to integrate language support across various subjects.
Organize language development workshops, seminars, and extracurricular activities.
Maintain records of student progress, attendance, and performance.
Stay updated on best practices and innovations in language education and ESL/EAL pedagogy.
Liaise with parents, guardians, and external agencies regarding student language development and integration.
Promote an inclusive environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Language Studies, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field.
Relevant certification in ESL/EAL teaching (e.g., CELTA, DELTA, TEFL/TESOL).
Prior experience in teaching or coordinating EAL/ESL programs.
Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
