Major Responsibilities:
Support and advocates for the implementation of the Bechtel scope of Project services-related sustainability and environmental management program, that are compliant with ISO 14001.
Work with Manager to help interpret complex requirements, identifying any conflicting requirements, and evaluating and applying appropriate scientific/environmental and sustainability principles in recommendations for resolution Supports the project’s environmental and sustainability program to deliver on the client’s environmental obligations and sustainability goals.
Organizes workshops and meetings with relevant stakeholders as required for solid understanding of requirements, resolution of issues in deliverables, further guidance or decisions as appropriate and keeps good records of discussions and decisions.
Formulate plans and methods to maintain compliance with environmental sustainability requirements and identifies and raises any environmental risks to compliance with regulatory or certification requirements Oversees the work of designers as carried out with respect to environmental and sustainability requirements by coordinating with design consultants and construction contractors to resolve issues associated with application of LEED and other relevant ratings.
Tracks progress and provides updates on contractor performance in meeting environmental and sustainability requirements and goals.
Identify any conflicting design requirements, or submittals and raise such issues for resolution, working with colleagues to develop recovery plans.
Review embodied carbon calculations, lifecycle analyses, daylight and energy assessments at a high level Coordinates with, and provides technical support to, project-assigned functional leads (e.g., engineering, subcontracts, procurement, project controls) regarding project-specific environmental and sustainability requirements.
Considers and recommends ways to incentivize contractors to exhibit high environmental and sustainability performance
Education and Experience :
Requirements:
Level 26 Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Level 27 Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience Possesses environmental-related certifications from national/international accrediting organizations/associations.
Awareness of ISO 14001 Experience and knowledge of relevant national and international policies and best practice in sustainability Possess a working understanding of GIS and BIM.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor of Science with Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, Planning or other relevant degree.
Minimum 8 years professional experience in environmental management, mitigation, sustainability certifications and monitoring in the construction industry.
Advanced knowledge of sustainable design and construction, environmental management and mitigation. Knowledge of environmental sciences, engineering and construction systems, principles, and methodologies.
Experience in Saudi Arabia and working in cross-cultural environments.
Familiar with KSA environmental laws/regulations and regulatory agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities, industry standards for environmental compliance, and best management practices for minimizing potential environmental impacts during project execution. Qualifications and experience in project certification to sustainable rating systems (e.g. LEED, Envision, Mostadam).
Experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of environmental subcontractors, consultants and Tier 1 Contractors.
Skilled in oral and written communication, able to listen, explain, explore and discuss environmental and sustainability issues with colleagues and contractors.
