The Health & Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with local, national, and international health and safety regulations. This role involves identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and promoting a safety culture to protect employees, visitors, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential health and safety risks
Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and protocols
Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions
Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for staff
Monitor workplace conditions and enforce safety regulations
Maintain records related to safety inspections, incidents, and training
Collaborate with management and employees to promote a proactive safety culture
Coordinate emergency response planning and drills
Stay updated on new safety regulations and industry best practices
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent
Strong knowledge of health and safety laws, regulations, and standards
Excellent observational, analytical, and communication skills
