Typical Duties & Responsibilities :
• Inspect battery mounts and terminal covers and note any loose fittings or exposed connections that need correction.
• Check lamp ratings and beam operation after replacement so the vehicle has the correct lighting function.
• Compare fuse sizes with circuit information and flag unsuitable protection rather than fitting a larger fuse.
• Examine connector seals and locking tabs to identify moisture entry or poor engagement before closing the connection.
• Check measuring leads and probes for damage and remove defective accessories from use before taking electrical readings.
• Label removed electrical parts with their condition and keep them separate from usable stock to prevent accidental reuse.
• Identify missing cable clips or broken supports and record their locations so mounting defects receive attention.
• Compare dashboard warning lamp behaviour with the relevant operating information and report signs of an incomplete self-check.
Useful Skills & Competencies :
• Circuit reading: Understand wiring symbols and shared connections to follow how power reaches a component and returns.
• Measurement judgement: Recognise when a reading lacks useful context and distinguish a meaningful result from a misleading one.
• Fault reasoning: Compare possible causes in a logical order and change the diagnosis when new evidence points elsewhere.
• Manual precision: Handle small contacts and terminals carefully without bending them or damaging nearby insulation.
• Technical communication: Explain electrical findings in plain language so colleagues understand both the result and remaining uncertainty.
• Risk awareness: Recognise stored energy, unexpected movement and unfamiliar voltage systems, including when to stop and seek qualified help.
