RE: APPLICATION FOR MUSIC TEACHING (General Music- IBDP/IB MYP/IB PYP / IGCSE, Guitar, Voice, Piano, Theory)
I am applying for a music teaching position at the above school. I am an experienced teacher in General Classroom Music Education, for several syllabuses / boards - including IBMYP, IBPYP, IGCSE, British National Curriculum, and the American Curriculum. I am also a UK registered tutor / presenter, for several of the ABRSM practical exams, including guitar, piano, voice; as well as the ABRSM Music Theory exams. I have also mentored a candidate, in preparation for the IB Diploma music course.
My names are John-Mary Kasujja Muzeyi. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons.) in Music Education, from the University of Pretoria, in South Africa - where I received membership to the GOLDEN KEY INTERNATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY; in recognition of academic excellence, while at the university. I am also a holder of a Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama - from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. I am a multidisciplinary / integrated-learning teacher, as well as a teacher mentor / trainer.
As a specialist subject teacher, I have always delivered my lessons and schemes of work in an integrated, and an interdisciplinary manner. I have mostly done this, by delivering a concept-based curriculum; in which the concepts I taught in my subject area, are carefully related, to the main concepts areas being focused on, in the particular unit of inquiry. As a multi-disciplinary teacher, who can also teach Math, Language Arts, some P.E (Basket-ball, Advanced Swimming, Badminton), Dance and Drama / Theatre - I am able to relate directly across the various subject areas, in my teaching, in order to make the link between subject-based terminology, and the concepts, in an accurate and authentic manner. I also can teach some sciences, humanity subjects, and environmental -related subjects
With regard to broadening the applicability and understanding, of the learners in the IBMYP (in relation to real-life / human applications, conditions and situations), I am particularly keen on facilitating the proper delivery, of the 'Areas of Interaction', as part of the IBO curriculum / syllabus / pedagogy.
I have 21 years of experience in music education, in accredited international schools (IBO, ECIS, Cambridge, NEACS, MSA ,ACIS) spanning 10 international schools, 5 countries and 3 continents, and have also contributed to school accreditation processes, for the mentioned educational boards.
My wife is a passionate and skilled foundation stage, and elementary school teacher, with 17 years of teaching experience, in accredited international schools (IBO, ECIS, Cambridge, NEACS, MSA, ACIS); the last 12, of which years, have been with schools pursuing the inquiry method of the IBO's PYP program. She has also contributed to the accreditation processes, for the above mentioned boards.
My wife and I have attended several of the IBO's PYP professional development workshops, including: 'Assessment in the PYP', ' Collaborative Planning', 'Inquiry Category 3', and 'ABSA - Teachers-Alike Sessions'; which have been done in a span of three different countries.
The last 12 years of my teaching, have been in exploration of the IBO's PYP, MYP and IB diploma systems.
I am passionate about the facilitation of a genuine, authentic, and an unadulterated approach to inquiry learning, in an inter-disciplinary manner. I also strive to ensure that the inquiry engine is alive, and driven by the learners themselves (right from the laying of the foundation of the inquiry, its scope / boundaries, and its delivery - right through the formative, up to the final summative assessments), and keen, that the results (skills acquired and approach), carry on into the rest of the learners’ lives - and hopefully, facilitate for their attitude, of being life-long learners.
I enjoy teacher mentoring. My wife and I have conducted several workshops on topics such as - "Thematic Teaching and Learning", "Child-centred Approaches to Learning", "How to Make Creative, Aesthetic, Stimulating and Child-centred Displays', and 'How to Make the PYP Happen".
Although I can teach music from the foundation stage to IB HL diploma, or A-levels, I am also comfortable with support-teaching, in the following subject areas: Maths (middle school, IGCSE or MYP), drama, language arts (foundation stage to IGCSE or MYP), creative dance, television script drama & directing, and IB Swahili AB initio (Language and Literature).
As a registered tutor for the ABRSM music exams, my most recent candidate/entries, have sat for, and passed the following ABRSM music exams - piano grade 5, guitar grade 5, singing grade 5 (merit), music theory grade 5, singing grade 8.
My music-related school day, as well as extra-curricula activities done, have included clubs and ensembles, such as – guitar ensemble (classical and pop), choir club, pop-band clubs, African dance club, African drumming / polyrhythmic cycles club, creative / modern dance club, recorder club, whole-school section choirs, elitist choir, jazz guitar / piano ensembles.
I am also quite keen at academic research writing skills, thesis writing, or long-essay writing.
My former IGCSE edexcel music candidates, have achieved a grade average, of a B
