I am a registered nurse in France since 2018.
I started by working 2 years in a psychiatric department at the hospital of Mayotte. I learned to take care of adults with different psychiatric pathologies. I developed my interpersonal skills and my ability to adapt to the public under my care. Moreover, I learned to protect myself and the patient in crisis (violence, aggressiveness).
I then spent 4 months in polyvalent medicine in this same structure. There, I acquired new skills, especially in technical care (dressings, urinary catheterization, nasogastric catheterization, blood sampling, oncology care...). I was in charge of 14 patients. I learned how to manage and deal with certain emergency situations (hypo or hyperglycemia, hypo or hypertension, pain, infectious syndromes, insertion of a venous line, stroke, heart attack...). I also provided therapeutic education to patients with diabetes and hypertension. Sometimes, I had the role of nurse coordinator. I had to manage the team, make sure that patients were coming in and out, make sure that the patients were well cared for, make sure that the team was happy and report any problems to the health care manager.
After that, I was for 6 months in a retirement home in Reunion Island. This was during the covid period. I gave vaccinations to the residents and the nursing staff. I accompanied the residents during their illness but also during their remission. I accompanied patients at the end of their lives, as well as their families, to deal with their grief. I was in charge of 40 to 80 residents depending on the day. I was also responsible for the management of the material of the establishment, I took the orders, made sure to have always enough stock of material for the residents and was referent of the dressings. I was responsible for the traceability, the realization and the evolution of the dressings and I informed my superior.
Currently, I am in the rehabilitation department at the Clinique St-Vincent. I take care of patients who need rehabilitation. I do the same care as when I was in the medical department, but the difference is that I have 30 patients in my care.
During my different experiences, I have learned to collaborate and work with different professionals; doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, surgeons, anesthetists, pharmacists. I also improved my organizational skills, as well as my work within a multidisciplinary team.
Beyond the skills that I have integrated and developed allowing me to adapt quickly, being able to practice in this country would be an opportunity for me to learn and speak arabic, and also to see new technologies used in medicine. I want to work in a new environment to develop new skills in one of your team.
