Mr Sergei Mitnovetski MBBS FRACS
Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Mr Sergei Mitnovetski graduated from University of Tasmania, Australia with Honours in 1999 and obtained his surgical training in Tasmania, Victoria and NSW. He has attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2011.

During his overseas fellowship Mr Mitnovetski operated at Bristol Heart Institute, UK with particular emphasis on Off Pump CABG and mitral valve surgery; and Toronto General Hospital, Canada where he had a wide exposure to the mitral, aortic and tricuspid valve surgery, aortic root and aortic arch surgery. Mr Mitnovetski also assisted and performed a number of complex valve reconstruction procedures.

After his overseas fellowship Mr Mitnovetski worked as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Queensland where he had developed wide-ranging skills in complex adult Cardiac and Thoracic surgery, managed chest traumas and provided care to critically ill patients in Intensive Care Units as well as to the Ward patients on daily basis.
Upon return from Queensland, Mr Mitnovetski has established his private practice in Melbourne where he sees and operates on his patients at:

Mr Sergei Mitnovetski provides a range of Cardiac and Thoracic surgical procedures and operations for the following wide scope of conditions/diseases:
• Coronary artery disease
• Heart valve diseases
(aortic, mitral and tricuspid stenosis or insufficiency)
• Dilatation of ascending aorta and/or aortic root
• Dissection of ascending aorta
• Benign tumours of the heart
• Atrial septal defects
• Bradycardia or complete heart block
• Lung cancer
• Empyema (purulent infection of the pleural space)
• Pneumothorax
• Pleural and pericardial effusions
(collection of fluid arround the heart or lungs)
• Chest trauma

Mr Mitnovetski is interested in all aspects of Adult Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery with some operative experience in Congenital Cardiac Surgery.
In particular, in Cardiac Surgery Mr Mitnovetski performs:
• coronary artery bypass graft surgery (On and Off Pump) with total arterial revascularisation whenever possible,
• aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve surgery (repair or replacement),
• aortic root replacement (with mechanical or tissue AVR),
• excision of atrial myxoma,
• septal myectomy,
• repair of ascending aortic dissection and aneurysm (with circulatory arrest, with or without valve replacement and or coronary re-implantation),
• repair of basic adult congenital cardiac defects,
• implantation of permanent pacemakers.
In Thoracic Surgery Mr Mitnovetski performs:
• VATS (minimally invasive) and Open lobectomies and pneumonectomies with lymph node dissection,
• VATS lung wedge resections, biopsies, pleurodesis and decortications,
• Thoracoscopic sympathectomy,
• Mediastinoscopy, rigid and flexible bronchoscopy,
• Open or VATS thymectomy.
