Work Experience, Department of Anesthesia at AFMC

AFMC is specially known for super specialty departments and as a tertiary care referral hospital. Most of the patients are ASA II and III, which are being referred from different hospitals across South India, which do not have the paraphernalia to get these cases done. So, here one gets the tremendous exposure of such type of cases. This department has Urology, Neurosurgical, Obstetric and Pediatric, Reconstructive, Orthopedic and Oncosurgical Operation Theatres apart from different routine OTs. It also has 14-bedded Intensive Care Unit attached to it with a turnover of nearly 1000+ patients in ICU per year.

I have worked as full time Anesthesia Resident in supervised postgraduate anesthesia training program from 17 Jul 2000 and completed my 3 years Residency tenure in Dec 2003(with a break in the training for 6 months because of my pregnancy). The position of Residency in Anesthesia is of high responsibility and involves jobs like managing the Operation Theatres and Intensive Care Unit. Other duties include teaching of Junior Residents and managing Surgical Emergencies, attending and contributing in various departmental and interdepartmental academic activities like case conferences, journal clubs, seminars and PG classes. The clinical approach for a patient is multidisciplinary and includes inputs from other Medical Specialties.
