Consult pre-operative patients regarding their pain management plans
Provide preoperative sedatives and medications for patients scheduled for surgery.
Provide general/regional/combined anesthesia for various types of surgery (elective, emergency/trauma) and patients (adult, geriatric, pediatric, obstetric)
Prescribe pain medications for post-operative, terminally ill cancer patients and patients with chronic pain conditions
Oversee the performance of newly certified anesthesiologists
Monitor the conditions of patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and ICU
Provide expertise in the diagnosis and management of disorders of the respiratory, cardiovascular, neurologic, gastrointestinal systems (including metabolic and nutritional support) and the renal system (including administration of fluids and electrolytes and management of acid-base disorders)
Care of the unconscious patient regardless of aetiology, of patients with a multiple organ injury or disease with multiple organ dysfunction syndromes, and patients requiring mechanical and extracorporeal life support. Effectively coordinate the management of these situations in a comprehensive and appropriate manner
Use appropriate clinical decision making to initiate appropriate management/treatment according to agreed protocols and guidelines
Closely adhere to local guidelines as well as participate in clinical research to create new ones
Coordinate the intra and inter hospital transfer of patients
Effectively communicate with colleagues, other specialists, patients and their relatives.
