[Dissertation: “Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization of Hypervirulent Klebsiella
pneumoniae from Respiratory isolates”
In recent years, K. pneumoniae had been identified as a major nosocomial pathogen causing community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and has been responsible for approximately 10% of all hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infections. A new hypervirulent variant (hvKp) belonging to K. pneumoniae emerged later that could be distinguished from the classic K. pneumoniae (cKp) by its propensity to cause metastatic infections in healthy hosts in the community.
This study determined the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of hvkp obtained from the respiratory isolates of infected patients and the resistance rates among hvKp and the mechanism of carbapenem resistance among carbapenem resistant hvKp.
